Summary

Technical Support doesn't support custom theme creation or changes to our existing themes. Customers who develop their own themes assume all responsibility for troubleshooting and changes. Also, themes that are used by our Sales Engineers, which haven't gone through Product Management approval for customer release, aren't supported. There's a DE menu option that pertains to custom themes that's not documented anywhere. The option is called Regenerate missing Theme Package, and must be used for the custom theme to be applied to the client. For this reason, this article has been created to help customers who incur issues while deploying a custom theme.

IMPORTANT: The DE Best Practices Guide recommends that you leave the default options on the Theme tab for easier deployment and management. Change to using a custom theme only after a successful deployment of the default theme.

Custom theme requirements:

Image with dimensions 1024 x 768
File format should be in .PNG
PNG file size shouldn't exceed 2.5 MB.

Solution

Create a custom theme:

Log on to the ePO console.
Click Menu, Configuration, Server Settings.
On the Setting Categories pane, click Drive Encryption, and then click Manage Themes to open the Drive Encryption Theme page.
Click Actions, Add.
Type a theme name in the Name field, and then select Create a new theme based on an existing theme option.
Select a theme from the Based on drop-down list.
Browse to the Background Image, and then click OK. This action creates the theme package in the following path:

C:\Program Files\McAfee\ePolicy Orchestrator\DB\Software\Current\EETHEME\DAT\0000 folder

NOTE: You can also browse and install a theme package using the Select Theme package to install option.
Generate the custom theme package:
1. Click Menu, Configuration, Server Settings, Endpoint Encryption, Manage Themes.
2. Click Actions, Regenerate Missing Theme Package.
Download the custom themes on the client using one of these methods:
- In ePO, use the Update Now option under Menu, Systems, System Tree, Actions, Agent.
- Product Update task
- Update Security from the client.
Restart the client.

NOTES:

All themes have a unique ID. When you run an ePO Server Update task, it verifies the theme IDs against the existing theme IDs on the client. The new theme is then downloaded to the client if it has changed.

Checks:

This package can be verified in the Master Repository. The Theme package Check in Date matches the time when you've regenerated the Theme Package.
This package is listed as McAfee Drive Encryption Themes and the Package Type is DAT.
When the client is updated, verify that the client task updates in the McAfee Agent Status Monitor and the new theme shows up in the path below:

C:\Program Files\McAfee\Endpoint Encryption Agent\Repository\Themes
In the mfeepe.log, verify whether the theme handler detects a theme ID change, and if there are any errors when the theme handler unzips the theme file.
Verify that the Background.png file is the background of the selected theme located in C:\Program Files\McAfee\Endpoint Encryption\Theme.
