Environment

ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) 5.10.x, 5.9.x

Microsoft Cluster Server

Problem

An agent wake-up call sent from an ePO server node fails in a cluster environment.

The server.log file records the following error:

Waking up agent HOSTNAME through Agent Handler ePOMachineName.domainname.com.
Waking up agent HOSTNAME.FQDN.com using DNS name
Error while reading TCP/IP response from remote system, possible firewall or agent policy blocking agent to server HTTP response
Waking up agent "MACHINENETBIOSNAME" using NetBIOS
Error while reading TCP/IP response from remote system, possible firewall or agent policy blocking agent to server HTTP response
Waking up agent at IP address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

Cause

The following applies:

The option Accept connections only from ePO server is selected in the McAfee Agent General policy.
You're trying to access the ePO console from one of the ePO cluster nodes.
The ePO cluster is hosted on the cluster's virtual server.
The virtual server is considered to be the local ePO server.
The ePO cluster nodes are not considered to be local ePO servers.

Solution

Disable the McAfee Agent policy option that allows connections only from the ePO server:

Log on to the ePO console.
Click Menu, Policy, Policy Catalog.
Select McAfee Agent from the Product drop-down list.
Select General from the Category drop-down list.
Click the policy that you want to change.
Click the General tab.
Deselect Accept connections only from ePO server and click Save.
Send an Agent wake-up call to apply the policy change.
