The MER tool collects the following data from your computer so that Technical Support can analyze and resolve issues:
- System information
- Installed software
- Hardware information
- System log messages
- Network information
- Directory listings
- McAfee / Trellix software information
Use the following steps to download and run the
MER tool for TA for Linux and UNIX. It's important to note that the script needs to be run with root privileges, so you might need to log on with either the actual root account or with an account that has sudo privileges.
- Download the MER tool attached to this article (agent_linux_mer_V4.0.zip).
- Copy agent_linux_mer_V4.0.zip to the /tmp directory on the affected client. Unzip the script file.
- Change to the /tmp directory. Type the following command and press Enter:
cd /tmp
- Uncompress the file. Type the following command and press Enter:
unzip agent_linux_mer_V4.0.zip
NOTE: The above extracts two files, release_notes.txt and agent_linux_mer.sh.
- To make the file executable, type the following command and press Enter:
sudo chmod +x agent_linux_mer.sh
NOTE: If prompted, type your password to continue.
- Execute the script. Type the following command and press Enter:
sudo bash agent_linux_mer.sh
NOTE: If prompted, type your password to continue.
The MER tool creates one of the following output files, depending on whether TA installation is detected:
/tmp/mer.out.gz
/tmp/<hostname>_AGENT_MER_RESULTS_<date>.tar.gz
- Submit the output files to Technical Support.
- If you are a registered user, type your User ID and Password, and then click Log In.
- If you are not a registered user, click Register and complete the fields to have your password and instructions emailed to you.
