When you try to decrypt the drive on a
Toshiba Portege R700 laptop that can't boot into Windows, the
DETech Standalone recovery utility fails to decrypt the drive. The BIOS is set to the
Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI) mode.
After you start the system from the
DETech CD, and start the disk encryption, the encryption status remains as the following for a considerable amount of time:
Decrypting.
A subsequent restart reports the following error:
McAfee EE Fatal error: EE020006 Getting disk info
Attempt 2:
When you change the BIOS SATA mode from AHCI to Compatibility Mode, and try again to decrypt using
DETech or
EETech, the following response is produced within a few seconds:
Started decryption
No disks require decryption
Finished decryption
Removing boot protection
Removal process complete
Attempt 3:
When you change the BIOS back to AHCI and restart it, it results in the following error:
error loading operating system
NOTE: At this point, the DE boot protection is disabled but the disk is still encrypted.
