Problem

After resuming from hibernation on Microsoft Windows 7, you see the following error:

Your system's firmware did not preserve the system memory map across the hibernate transition

Cause

There are several reasons why this can occur:

If the encryption hasn't finished the activation stage, this error message is expected because the memory map has changed since the moment hibernation was called (before PreBoot Authentication (PBA) occurs). When the resume from hibernation occurs, the PBA screen is displayed, causing the memory map to be changed.
If any memory contents have changed, such as a computer recovery (Challenge Recovery), the memory map is also changed.
If the error occurs after hibernation (and not on resuming from hibernation), the root cause is tied to issues identified in the firmware.
The system has not been restarted after activation or de-activation.

Solution

If you see the error before DE or EEPC has encrypted the disk and activated, or after a Challenge Recovery has taken place, the product is working as expected and it can't be addressed because of the nature of the memory change required by the PBA environment.

However, if you see the issue outside of this context, we advise you to contact your firmware or BIOS manufacturer to obtain an updated version of the firmware to address this issue.
