When you install ePO extensions, it's important to make sure that other programs don't interfere. This action is important on mature ePO servers where there are many extensions, tasks, queries, and reports in use. Or, where the ePO server has been disconnected from the database since the last reboot.
If your ePO server meets the following criteria, you can use the standard extension upgrade process, as described in the ePO Product Guide:
- The ePO server is relatively unchanged since the original installation.
- You haven't disconnected the ePO server from the database since the last server reboot.
- You have no tasks, queries, or reports that use the extensions you want to upgrade.
IMPORTANT:
- Read this entire article before you perform any of the steps.
- Perform the steps in exactly the order they're listed, even if you already have a database backup. A backup that's even one day old might not recover all data.
- Make sure that you have the Disaster Recovery passphrase. If you don't remember it, you can change it in Configuration, Server Settings, Disaster Recovery.
- Make sure that you have a local Global Administrator account for ePO.
- Make sure that you have the logon credentials for the database account that ePO uses to connect to SQL.
Perform the steps below to disable the appropriate services and safely install or upgrade extensions that are currently in use:
- In the ePO console, select Menu, Configuration, Server Settings.
- Select Policy and Task Retention, and click Edit.
- Select When a management extension for a product is removed: Keep policy and client task data.
- Run the server task Disaster Recovery Snapshot Server.
- Back up the ePO database.
- Enable Orion debug logging. For instructions, see KB52369 - How to enable debug logging in the Orion.log.
- Stop all ePO services and remote Agent Handler services.
NOTE: Don't disable the Agent Handlers in ePO.
- Start only the McAfee Application Server Service (Tomcat) on the ePO server.
- Install the new extensions.
- After the extensions are installed, stop the Application Server Service, and then start all ePO services and Remote Agent Handler services.
- Put Orion back into warn mode.
The extensions are now installed correctly.
If any errors occur during the extension installation, continue to the next section.
- Run the Minimum Escalation Requirements (MER) tool on the ePO server as Administrator.
NOTE: Run the MER with the product ePolicy Orchestrator only. For instructions, see KB59385 - How to use MER tools with supported Trellix products.
- Contact Technical Support and provide the MER results on request.
- If you are a registered user, type your User ID and Password, and then click Log In.
- If you are not a registered user, click Register and complete the fields to have your password and instructions emailed to you.
