You notice the following issues when you back up a Windows system using the native Windows Server backup application or any other third-party backup application with ACC installed.
Problem 1:
When a user tries to back up the entire system state or any individual drive on a system where ACC is installed, the backup either fails or completes with warnings. Backup application logs show the point of failure as
access denied when trying to perform I/O operations on the
Solidcore folder.
In the Windows backup logs, you see the following errors:
Error in backup of C:\Solidcore\so_status during write: Error [0x80070005] Access is denied.
Error in backup of C:\Solidcore\cons_cache\ during write: Error [0x80070005] Access is denied.
Error in backup of C:\Solidcore\supp_cache\ during write: Error [0x80070005] Access is denied.
Problem 2:
Windows backup logs can contain another error related to the
C:\Solidcore\scinvlog file.
Error in backup of
C:\Solidcore\scinvlog during enumerate:
Error [0x80070005] Access is denied.
The
SCINVLOG file is an encrypted transaction log that gets updated repeatedly and it holds all information about the files that are added, modified, deleted, and solidified or unsolidified. It's only accessible by the kernel level driver
swin.sys. It isn't possible to bypass it by adding any exclusions from ACC policies.
