Environment

Data Exchange Layer Broker (DXL Broker) 6.x, 5.x,
McAfee Agent 5.6.x

Problem

The DXL Broker service becomes unresponsive intermittently.

The details below are recorded in the Windows System Event Log:

Type: Error
Source: Service Control Manager
Event ID: 7031
Description: The McAfee DXL Broker service ended unexpectedly. This has happened 1 time. The following corrective actions are taken in 60,000 milliseconds: Service restart

NOTE: The DXL fabric might be degraded while the DXL Broker service isn't running.

System Change

You installed DXL Broker on a Windows operating system.

Cause

mfecryptc.dll is loaded by the DXL Broker service and registers an OpenSSL callback (crypto_set_id_callback). When mfecryptc.dll is unloaded, the callback is not correctly unregistered.

Solution

The issue documented in this article is resolved by McAfee Agent 5.6.2 and later, which is available from the Product Downloads site.
