Environment

ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) 5.x

Problem 1

An upgrade of ePO to a later version fails.

The EPOxxx-Install-MSI.LOG and the EPOxxx-Error.Ini log record the following error:

FAILURE: In LaunchApplication while trying to run the following program:

"C:\Users\usladmin\AppData\Local\Temp\2\McAfeeLogs\EPOxxx-Troubleshoot\OutputFiles\epoST.bat"

Problem 2

A file named epoST.err is generated in the %temp%\McAfeeLogs\EPOxxx-Troubleshoot\OutputFiles\ folder.

At the bottom of this file, you see the following error:

E:\Program Files\McAfee\ePolicy Orchestrator\Server\extensions\installed\EPOCore\<ePO version number>\install.xml:80: java.sql.SQLException: The CREATE UNIQUE INDEX statement terminated because a duplicate key was found for the object name 'dbo.EPOServerKeys' and the index name 'PK_EPOServerKeys_KeyHash'. The duplicate key value is (<hash>).

Cause

There are duplicate agent-server communication keys present. A key restraint exists on the EPOServerKeys that prevents duplication of server key names or hash values.

Solution

Remove the duplicate agent-server communication key from ePO:

Log on to the ePO console.
Click Menu, Configuration, Server Settings.
Find the duplicate keys. Click Security Keys under the Setting Categories column and review the hash values for all Agent-server secure communication keys.
Remove the duplicate key.

IMPORTANT:
- Delete a key that's not being used (noted by '0 agents' next to the key hash value).
- Don't delete a key that's set to Master.
Try the upgrade again.
