Environment

ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) 5.x

Problem

Some computers listed in the directory are unable to be managed on an ePO server that has two Network Interface Cards (NICs) installed.

Cause

Computers with two NICs can register with the wrong network card, which results in preventing the ePO Server from communicating with its clients. When there are two NICs installed on the ePO server, every time the ePO server starts, it's possible to randomly register with a different NIC. This action can lead to problems in managing the client computers.

Solution

Follow the steps below to force the ePO server to use a specific NIC by adding a rule in the server.ini file:

Specify an NIC in the server.ini file:
1. Press Windows+R, type explorer, and click OK.
2. Navigate to C:\Program Files\McAfee\ePolicy Orchestrator\DB
3. Right-click server.ini and click Open.
4. Add the following rule under the [Server] section:
  
  ServerIpAddress=<NIC IP address>
Specify an NIC for the Agent Handler:
1. Log on to the ePO console.
2. Click Menu, Configuration, Agent Handlers.
3. From the window Handler Status, click Agent Handlers, and then click the link in the Handler DNS Name column.
4. Specify the correct information for the NIC in the Published DNS Name and Published IP address fields.
Restart the ePO services:
1. Press Windows+R, type services.msc, and click OK.
2. Right-click each of the following services and click Restart:
  
  McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator Application Server
  McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator Event Parser
  McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator Server
3. Close the services window.
