McAfee / Trellix Agent icon in the notification area is missing

Environment

Endpoint Security (ENS) 10.x
Trellix Agent (TA) 5.x

NOTE: McAfee Agent (MA) was rebranded to TA in version 5.7.7.

Problem

The MA / TA icon in the notification area (system tray) is missing on the Windows system.

Cause

There can be multiple causes, including the following:

The MA / TA icon is disabled in the Agent General policy.
The MA / TA icon isn't present in remote sessions.
The shortcut from the Run key is either removed or not installed.

Solution

Perform the relevant solution below:

To enable the MA / TA icon, select Show the McAfee system tray icon (Windows only) in the Agent General policy.
To enable the MA / TA icon for remote sessions, select Enable McAfee system tray icon in a remote desktop session in the Agent General policy.
Run UPDATERUI.EXE manually. For more information, see KB60750 - McAfee / Trellix Agent icon isn’t present in the notification area during a remote session using terminal services.
To re-create the missing Run key entry, perform the steps below:

- Do not run a REG file that is not confirmed to be a genuine registry import file.
1. Press Windows+R, type regedit, and click OK.
2. Navigate to the following key:
  
  For 32-bit systems: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
  For 64-bit systems: HKLM\Software\Wow6432node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
3. Right-click and select New, String Value.
4. Name the new REG_SZ string value and specify the following for Value data:
  
  "McAfeeUpdaterUI"=""C:\Program Files\McAfee\Agent\x86\UpdaterUI.exe" /StartedFromRunKey"
5. Click OK.
