Unable to authenticate with the LDAP server. Verify that the username and password are correct

Environment

ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) 5.x

Problem

The following error displays when you try to register an LDAP server:

Unable to authenticate with the LDAP server. Verify that the user name and password are correct.

The following is recorded in the orion.log:

com.mcafee.orion.ldap.LdapAuthenticationException: Unable to authenticate with the LDAP server. Verify that the user name and password are correct.

Despite the above errors, the following applies:

The credentials used are correct.
You can telnet from the ePO server to the LDAP server on port 389 or 636, if using SSL.

Cause

The format defined by the LDAP administrator typically uses the format DOMAIN\USERNAME, but in some environments, the preferred format method is USER@DOMAIN.

Solution

You must use the format USER@DOMAIN and test the connection to confirm that your problem is this issue. If it doesn't, you're having an unrelated issue.
