Failed to resume from hibernate with error status 0xC000000D (HP EliteBook 840 G3 on Windows 7 UEFI systems)

After successfully installing, encrypting, and activating DE, the following is randomly observed on the HP 840 G3 when resuming from hibernation:

A black screen with the windows error code: Windows failed to resume from hibernate with error status 0xC000000D

The issue is seen on Windows 7 systems that have the BIOS configured in UEFI mode.

The system is encrypted with software encryption.

Investigation has identified that this issue doesn't occur in the following conditions:

This is platform-specific; the issue is not reproducible on a Virtual Machine in UEFI mode with Windows 7.

HP recommends upgrading to Windows 10 when this model is configured in UEFI mode.

Use the Windows Sleep mode rather than Windows Hibernate mode.
