Application Error "Memory couldn't be written"

Environment

Data Loss Prevention (DLP) Endpoint - all supported versions
ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) 5.x

Microsoft Windows 10 Version 1511 or later
Microsoft Internet Explorer 11

Problem

On a client with the DLP Endpoint Clipboard Protection or Printing Protection rules applied, you see the following error message when you use Internet Explorer 11:

Application Error : The instruction at 0x00007FFB76534F20 referenced memory at 0x00007FFB76534F20. The memory could not be written.
Click on OK to terminate the program

NOTE: This issue occurs on clients that run Windows 10 Version 1511 or later using Internet Explorer 11. The issue doesn't occur when the Clipboard Protection and Printing Protection rules are disabled on the client. The issue also doesn't occur if Internet Explorer 11 is downgraded to a previous version.

Cause

The default clipboard allow list process, fontdrvhost.exe, is removed from the DLP Endpoint Clipboard Protection rule.

Solution

Add the fontdrvhost.exe process to the DLP Endpoint Clipboard Protection rule:

Log on to the ePO console and go to Menu, Policy Catalog, Windows Client Configuration.
In the left pane, select the Clipboard Protection rule.
In the right pane, type fontdrvhost.exe in the process name field and click Add to add the process.
Save the change.
In the System Tree, select the client.
To force a policy and task update on the client, perform a wake-up call.

If a printing rule is assigned within the same rule set, add the fontdrvhost.exe process to the DLP Endpoint Printing Protection rule:

Log on to the ePO console and go to Menu, Policy Catalog, Windows Client Configuration.
In the left pane, select the Printing Protection rule.
In the right pane, type fontdrvhost.exe in the process name field and click Add to add the process.
Save the change.
In the System Tree, select the client.
To force a policy and task update on the client, perform a wake-up call.
