Environment

Drive Encryption (DE) 7.1.x

Problem

You see the following error after you boot from an EETech recovery media, authenticate, and then attempt to use the option Force Crypt Sector:

Error EE020002 - Error writing disk sector

Cause

You're using the EETech recovery media for Endpoint Encryption for PC (EEPC) 7.0.x and not the DETech recovery media for DE 7.1.x.

The EEPC 7 recovery media isn't compatible with a drive encrypted with DE 7.1.x

Solution

Perform the steps in the DETech User Guide to create the DETech recovery media. At the time of publishing, the latest release is DE 7.1. For details, see PD24871.

IMPORTANT: Make sure that you match the DETech recovery media to the DE version used to encrypt the hard-disk.
