Java.net.SocketException Connection reset

Environment

ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) 5.x

Problem

An ePO Update or upgrade fails.

The Epo.err log on the ePO Server records the following errors:

Error encountered while running command:ext.install extension=file:///C:/PROGRA~1/McAfee/EPOLIC~1/INSTAL~1/ePO/EXTENS~2/epo.zip

java.net.SocketException: Connection reset

Cause

The installer tries to add a registry key that exists. The installer doesn't account for the presence of the registry key, which causes the upgrade to fail.

Solution

Remove the registry key that causes the upgrade failure:

Do not run a REG file that is not confirmed to be a genuine registry import file.

Log on to the ePO server.
Click Start, Run, type regedit, and click OK.
Navigate to the appropriate registry key depending on the operating system:
- 32-bit
  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Apache Software Foundation\Procrun 2.0\MCAFEETOMCATSRV250\Parameters\Java
- 64-bit
  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Apache Software Foundation\Procrun 2.0\MCAFEETOMCATSRV250\Parameters\Java
Open the Options REG_MULTI_SZ key.
Remove the line that starts with the following:

–Dorion.disable-plugins=
Click OK.
Perform the ePO upgrade again.
