In previous versions of ePO, several functions depended on NetBIOS over TCP/IP. If you disabled this protocol, ePO operations would be impacted. Current versions of ePO are less dependent on this protocol. 

If you disable NETBIOS over TCP/IP using the following steps, no major functionality in ePO is impacted:

1. Open the Network Adaptor.
2. Click Properties, Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), Properties, Advanced.
3. Select the WINS tab.
4. Select Disable NetBIOS over TCP.

NOTE: If any settings other than the ones listed above are changed, this support statement doesn't apply.
 
The following features were tested in ePO 5.9.x and 5.10.0, after NetBIOS over TCP/IP was disabled using the steps described in this article. No failures were found.

• Push the McAfee Agent install using system name only
• Dynamic Permission set assignment and NT User authentication
• LDAPSync
• Active Directory Sync

The only feature impacted is Domain Synchronization, which is sometimes called NT Domain Sync or domain browsing.

Domain Synchronization is a legacy protocol in Windows, originating in Windows NT, and relies on NetBIOS. Active Directory Sync, which uses the LDAP protocol and isn't affected by disabling NetBIOS, replaces Domain Synchronization.
