Environment

McAfee Agent (MA) 5.x

Summary

If you are using MA 5.6.1 or later, this article does not apply.

Problem 1

You see the following error when you view the agent log:

ERROR: HTTP Error 403 - Forbidden Internet Explorer

The error occurs either in:

The ePO console when you click Show Agent Log under Systems.
Or
Your web browser when you access the agent log at http://clientIP:port.

Problem 2

The agent log seems to load, but never displays.

Cause

The default setting for the MA policy prevents access to the agent _<computer name>.log file because the Enable remote access to log option is disabled.

Solution 1

Enable remote access to the log that is in the MA policy:

Log on to the ePO console.
Click Menu, Policy, Policy Catalog.
Select McAfee Agent from the Product drop-down list.
Select General from the Category drop-down list.
Click the policy that you want to change.
Click the Logging tab.
Select Enable remote access to log and click Save.
Click the System Tree tab.
Select the appropriate computers.
Click More Actions and select Wake Up Agents from the list.
Do not change the default settings. Click OK.

Solution 2

Disable the option that allows connections only from the ePO server in the MA policy:

Log on to the ePO console.
Click Menu, Policy, Policy Catalog.
Select McAfee Agent from the Product drop-down list.
Select General from the Category drop-down list.
Click the policy that you want to change.
Click the General tab.
Deselect Accept connections only from ePO server and click Save.
Click the System Tree tab.
Select the appropriate computers.
Click More Actions and select Wake Up Agents from the list.
Do not change the default settings. Click OK.
