Summary
Description of Campaign Threat actors were seen advertising a marketplace where companies and criminals could purchase information about competitors or targets of interest. The marketplace, known as Industrial Spy, was advertised through pirated software and adware. Recently, the operators of the marketplace have been seen ransoming targets and extorting them for decryption. The ransomware encrypts the victim's files but doesn't change the file extensions, a ransom note is dropped, payment is demanded, and communication is set through a Tox ID or email address. Similarities have been identified between the Cuba ransomware note and Industrial Spy ransomware, but no attribution has been made.
