Summary
Description of Campaign Threat actors have been manipulating Windows event logs to hide shell code within them in an attempt to evade detection. The threat actors have also used legitimate naming conventions to match those used by the target organization, including software packages and domains, which the threat actor has stood up using VPS services. Other tactics and techniques used to evade detection included the use of various compilers, wrappers, and decryptors to conceal payloads and execute malware via search-order hijacking. Our ATR Team gathers and analyzes information from multiple open and closed sources before disseminating intelligence reports. This campaign was researched by Kaspersky and shared publicly.
