High CPU usage for apache.exe after applying ePO 5.10 Update 11 or later

Environment

ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) 5.10 Update 11

Problem

After applying ePO 5.10 Update 11 or later to an ePO server or Agent Handler, the apache.exe process might result in more CPU usage than before. Sometimes, the usage can go above 90%, causing performance issues on the system.

Cause

This problem occurs because of changes to the cryptography components and settings introduced in Update 11. These changes can cause increased CPU usage when apache.exe is negotiating a TLS connection.

Solution

To resolve the issue, perform the steps below:

In a text editor, edit the <ePO install folder>\Apache2\conf\ssl.conf file.
Locate the line that starts with SSLHonorCipherOrder. Change the value of this line from on to off. The line now reads:

SSLHonorCipherOrder off

NOTE: Changing this setting doesn't compromise the security of agent/server communications in any way.
Save the file.
Restart the ePO server service or ePO Agent Handler service.

The CPU usage for apache.exe should be reduced.
