No appropriate protocol (Error when connecting to Database Security Insights from Database Security Server)

Database Security Server 4.8.5 and later

Problem

When connecting to Database Security Insights from the Database Security server, you see the connection error below displayed in the web console:

No appropriate protocol (protocol is disabled or cipher suites are inappropriate)

The server logs list the error below:

failure sending to SNG javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException:
No appropriate protocol (protocol is disabled or cipher suites are inappropriate)

Cause

The version of JRE used by the Database Security web console is configured to explicitly restrict the use of TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1.
The web console uses TLS 1.0 to communicate with Insights, so the connection fails.

Solution

To allow connections between the Database Security web console and Insights over TLS 1.0, perform the steps below:

Navigate to:
- Windows: C:\Program Files\McAfee\McAfee Database Security\java\<JRE Folder Name> \lib\security
- Linux: /usr/local/mfe-dbs-server/jre/lib/security
Open the file java.security in an editor of your choice.
Locate the parameter:
jdk.tls.disabledAlgorithms
Remove TLSv1, TLSv1.1 from the list of values.
Save your changes.
Restart the dbsec server.
