SummaryThe Babax stealer was originally developed and sold as an infostealer. The release of the source code and continued development resulted in the Osno stealer, which has included many new modules including a rootkit installer, RDP functionality, lateral movement, and AV evasion. Additionally, Osno includes a ransomware feature, which acts more as a wiper due to the inability to recover files. Osno is suspected of being active since at least mid-2019 and is expected to have continued development as most of the malware modules have been borrowed from public repositories and the inability to deploy the ransomware without destruction of files. As the development of Osno continues, our Threat Research team will continue to monitor and update the activity related to the Osno infostealer, and information deemed appropriate regarding victims or newly discovered developments will be disseminated. Our Threat Research team gathers and analyzes information from multiple open and closed sources before disseminating intelligence reports. This campaign was researched by G Data and shared publicly.
