Starting Q4 2021, we are changing the Web Gateway WBG-5500-E and WBG-5000-E back panel Ethernet interface port layout.
Changed models ship with a new network interface card. But, depending on availability of the parts at the time of the manufacturing process, the factory might assemble appliances using the original network interface card.
This change is noticeable as a different back panel layout for the ports: Network interfaces 3–6. Other ports, such as Network interfaces 1 and 2, Serial and RMM stay the same.
See the Related Information field for a comparison between the two models.
You can still add the supportable 4-port fiber card, and increase the port count to 8. The add-on fiber card must be installed in Riser # 2 [Closest to the PSU]. For a list of supported fiber cards, see the Adding a module card section of the Web Gateway Hardware Guide.
NOTE: When you install the new fiber card, you must remove the card already present in the alternative configuration.
Steps to install the 4-port fiber card for alternative network interface configuration
Remove the originally shipped 2-port Interface Network Module:
- Turn off the system and detach the power cables.
- Detach network cables from the NIC ports module.
- Remove the tamper proof label.
- Remove the system top cover:
- Loosen the two captive thumb screws located on the back of the system cover.
- Slide the system top cover back.
- Lift the cover upward.
- Locate the interface module installed in riser # 2 closest to the PSU.
- Grasp the riser card and network assembly and carefully pull straight up to remove the card.
- Remove the screw from the riser card.
- Remove the Network add-on X550-T2 from the riser card connector.
Install the new 4-port Interface Network Module:
- Locate the 4-port fiber card.
- Insert the 4-port fiber card in the slot on the riser card until is fully seated.
- Secure the 4 ports fiber card the riser bracket with the screw.
- Position the riser card edge connector over the riser slot on the server board.
- Align the two hooks on the back edge of the riser assembly with the slot on the back of the chassis.
- Once aligned, carefully press the riser assembly straight down into the riser slot.
NOTE: Don’t rock the riser assembly into place; doing so might damage the contact pins within the riser slot.
- Install the top cover:
- Place the system cover onto the chassis and slide the cover forward until the front edge of the system cover is pressed up against the back edge of the front drive bay.
- Hand tighten the two captive thumb screws at the back of the chassis.
- Plug the cables into the 4 ports fiber card.
- Test the system function.
- Install the tamper label.
