SummaryA new variant of the FiveHands ransomware family was discovered. The malware used various open-source tools to carry out the operation. The actor exploited an Internet-facing SonicWall VPN appliance to gain an initial foothold. SoftPerfect Network Scanner, Advanced Port Scanner, Remote Utilities, All-In-One Password Recovery Pro, and PsExec were used for reconnaissance, remote administration, and persistence. The pCloud encrypted cloud storage was used to host exfiltrated data. Our Threat Reseach team gathers and analyzes information from multiple open and closed sources before disseminating intelligence reports.
