Problem

An upgrade from ePO 5.9.x to 5.10 fails when the ePO database is hosted in AWS.

The following errors are recorded in the epoST.err file: (UserTemp folder \McAfeeLogs\EPO5100-Troubleshoot\OutputFiles\epoST.err)

Error encountered while running command:ext.install extension=file:///D:/McAfee/INSTAL~1/ePO/EXTENS~2/epoST.zip

D:\McAfee\Server\extensions\installed\EPOCore\5.10.0.2428\install.xml:214: java.sql.SQLException: CREATE DATABASE permission denied in database 'master'.

Cause

Only a Master User has permission to create a database for a Relational Database Service (RDS) instance. You can't create the database by using any other user (for example Rest All). This limitation is because of the implementation of AWS RDS.

Solution

During the upgrade, you must use the Master user for the RDS SQL Server database, in both the ePO Connection Settings page and in the upgrade tool.

NOTE: After the upgrade is completed, if you don't want to continue to use the Master user for ePO connectivity, you can replace it with any user you want. But, the user you choose to use for the ePO connection must be made a DB_OWNER for both the ePO core database and the Events database.
