SummaryThe RedXOR Linux backdoor targets endpoints and servers to exfiltrate sensitive information from the infected system. The malicious software is possibly tied to a Chinese nation-state actor due to the malware's sophistication. RedXOR masquerades as polkit daemon, encodes network data, and is compiled with a legacy GCC compiler. The malware shares similarities to tools used by the Winnti Group including the Adore-ng open-source LKM rootkit, the CheckLKM function name, and the use of the Python pty shell. Our Threat Research team gathers and analyzes information from multiple open and closed sources before disseminating intelligence reports. This campaign was researched by Intezer and shared publicly.
