Summary
A campaign attributed to the TA505 threat group used an updated version of the MINEBRIDGE remote access trojan aimed at security researchers. The initial infection vector consisted of spear-phishing emails with a malicious attachment. To appear legitimate a message was displayed to the victim reporting the file was successfully converted from PDF after the user opened the Word document and enabled macros. The RAT was included in a SFX archive along with a legitimate TeamViewer application and was downloaded to the system using the Windows finger utility.
Our Threat Research team gathers and analyzes information from multiple open and closed sources before disseminating intelligence reports. This campaign was researched by Zscaler and shared publicly.
