From MA 5.6.6 and later, the URL-based download
McAfeeSmartInstall.app file changed to
McAfeeSmartInstall.sh. It’s a shell script file that bundles the app and configuration data. After the file is downloaded, the user can modify the
McAfeeSmartInstall.sh script through a
vi editor.
IMPORTANT: You can modify a script line. But, don’t add any new lines because the data is packaged at the end of the scripts.
Change the content of the
McAfeeSmartInstall.sh file:
- Edit the McAfeeSmartInstall.sh file using a vi editor.
- Change line 45 and 46, and set the Absolute path instead of the symbolic link:
From:
sudo cp -f $temp_directory/coninfo.xml /tmp/coninfo.xml
open -W -a "$temp_directory/$APP_FILE_NAME" --args -c "/tmp/coninfo.xml" "$@"
To:
sudo cp -f $temp_directory/coninfo.xml /private/tmp/coninfo.xml
"$temp_directory/$APP_FILE_NAME/Contents/MacOS/McAfeeSmartInstall" -c "/private/tmp/coninfo.xml" -s -g
IMPORTANT:
- Make sure the edit changes only lines 45 and 46. There must not be a line 47 with any new data.
- The file /tmp/coninfo.xml is an alias name of /private/tmp/coninfo.xml.
- Make sure you allow the shell script to write to /private/tmp.
- Save the file and rerun the installation on the Mac. You’re no longer prompted for a user password.
