Request timeouts can occur when network traffic is high

Security for Microsoft Exchange (SME) 8.7.0

The IP reputation request times out on the SME 8.6.X server.

The reputation score isn't fetched from the Global Threat Intelligence (GTI) servers.

By default, GTI has the following configuration:

If the network traffic is high, the default values of the above parameters can result in request timeouts.

Override the GTI configuration settings:

Access the server on which SME 8.7.0 is installed.
Make sure that the logged-in user has the needed permissions to edit the registry.
Click Start, Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
Navigate to the following location:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\McAfee\MSME.
Create a new Key GTIConfig.
Under the newly created key GTIConfig, create the following DWORD registry values:
- OverrideRequestTimeoutSeconds
  
  NOTE: Timeout in seconds for every IP reputation request.
- OverrideRequestConnectionsCount (Optional)
  
  NOTE: Number of open connections to GTI servers.
- OverrideRequestAttemptsCount (Optional)
  
  NOTE: Number of attempts before the IP reputation request retries are dropped.
Set the value of OverrideRequestTimeoutSeconds to 4 (or higher).
Exit the registry.
