ePolicy Orchestrator Pre-Installation Auditor tool flags an issue with 'McAfee ePO server SSL parameter'

Environment

ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) 5.x
Pre-Installation Auditor (PIA) tool

NOTE: The PIA tool is also known as the Installation and Upgrade Precheck tool.

Problem

If the PIA tool flags on a check named McAfee ePO server SSL parameter, it indicates that you have your ePO server configured to require SSL on the core or config page.

PIA triggers this check if the core or config page of the ePO has the SSL communication with database server setting set to anything other than either of the following:

Try to use SSL
Never use SSL

NOTE: An example of the core or config page is https://localhost:8443/core/config.

ePO upgrades might fail if PIA reports this issue.

Solution

During the upgrade, change your configuration to Try to use SSL, rather than requiring it:

Log on to your ePO console.
Switch the URL to the core or config page. For example, if your ePO server's name is "ePO," and you're using the default port of 8443, the URL would be https://ePO:8443/core/config.
Make a note of how the SSL communication with database server setting is defined on this page.
Change the SSL communication with database server setting to Try to use SSL.
Complete the ePO upgrade.
Access the core or config page. Then, change the SSL communication with database server setting to the value that you noted in Step 3.

NOTE: If the setting on the core or config page is previously set to Always use SSL and require a trusted server certificate, perform the supplemental instructions included in KB84628 - Configurations for ePolicy Orchestrator certificate validation issue for secure database connection. This action reimports the root certificate to the ePO Java Trusted Certificate store.
