Environment

ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) 5.10 and Update 1–12

Problem

When you install an extension or create, change, or duplicate policies in ePO, it fails with the error below:

Unexpected error

The Orion.log (ePO_installation_directory\Server\Logs) records the following error:

ERROR [http-nio-8443-exec-20] servlet.ControllerServlet - Exception thrown by ActionBean:
java.sql.DataTruncation: Data truncation
at net.sourceforge.jtds.jdbc.SQLDiagnostic.addDiagnostic(SQLDiagnostic.java:386)

A review of the identity value of the EPOPolicySettingValuesMT table confirms that it is at the maximum value of 2,147,483,647:

DBCC CHECKIDENT (EPOPolicySettingValuesMT, noreseed)

Cause

Factors that lead to this error are listed below:

Some product extensions are configured to allow the creation of a comparatively large number of policies.
The creation of many policies occurs over a specific time period.

Persistent policy creation conflicts with the design of the product.

Eventually, when enough policies have been created and removed, the identity value of the EPOPolicySettingValuesMT table reaches its maximum value of 2,147,483,647.
In this scenario, the change or creation of policies fails because of an arithmetic overflow error.

Solution

This issue is resolved in ePO 5.10.0 Update 13, which is available from either the Software Catalog or the Product Downloads site.
