When you run the ePO PIA tool in preparation for an upgrade to a later version of ePO, it flags an issue with the SQL database feature
Auto Close.
When the SQL Auto Close is set to true:
- Database connections are closed immediately after they're used.
- The performance plan for the query is cleared from the SQL procedure cache.
The above can have a negative impact on the performance of ePO, and can cause the ePO upgrade to fail. ePO uses
connection pooling, which doesn't work properly when Auto Close is enabled.
Microsoft Best Practices recommends that you set Auto Close to false. For details, see
this Microsoft documentation.
To see if the feature is enabled:
- Open SQL Studio Manager and access the SQL instance that hosts your ePO database.
- Right-click the ePO database in Object Explorer and select Properties.
- Click Options in the Select a page field.
- Scroll to the top and look at the value for Auto Close.
- Set the value to False if it's set to True.
- Click OK.
