Internal Oberthur Smart Card readers aren't detected during the preboot authentication screen on multiple Dell systems. During PBA, one of the following errors displays: This issue is seen on systems where the BIOS is configured to use the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface and when secure boot and fast boot are enabled. Cause
Fast Boot or Fast Startup is not supported with DE. Several DE features are impacted if Fast Boot or Fast Startup is enabled.
Solution
To resolve the smart card reader issue, enable the option Thorough in the Dell BIOS under Settings. The Thorough option performs a complete hardware and configuration test, without skipping anything during the boot process. The following Fast Boot options are available in the Dell Bios settings
