After uninstalling the Endpoint Security Firewall module, the client blocks incoming network connections
Technical Articles ID:
KB90765
Last Modified: 2022-02-14 20:32:37 Etc/GMT Environment
Endpoint Security (ENS) Firewall 10.x
Problem
After you uninstall the ENS Firewall module, all incoming traffic to the client is blocked.
Cause
Uninstallation of the ENS Firewall module fails to disable the hidden firewall rule Startup protection. If the option Allow only outgoing traffic until firewall services have started is enabled in the applied ENS Firewall Options policy, this option stays active after the ENS Firewall module is uninstalled. This option allows only outgoing network traffic until the ENS Firewall service is started. Because the ENS Firewall service is uninstalled, the rule stays active and causes the described problem. Solution
This issue is resolved in ENS 10.7.0 April 2020 Update. Our product software, upgrades, maintenance releases, and documentation are available on the Product Downloads site.
NOTE: You need a valid Grant Number for access. See KB56057 - How to download product updates and documentation for more information about the Product Downloads site, and alternate locations for some products. Workaround
To prevent the issue, disable the ENS Firewall before you uninstall the module. In your assigned ENS Firewall Options policy, deselect the option Enable Firewall. If you're uninstalling the ENS Firewall module locally, disable ENS Firewall through the ENS console. On clients that are already affected, reinstall ENS Firewall, disable ENS Firewall through your assigned policy, and uninstall the ENS Firewall module.
