On Screen Keyboard (OSK) keystrokes are delayed during preboot by several seconds on the Getac T800 tablet

Environment

Drive Encryption (DE) 7.x
Getac T800 Tablet (H2BIOS, Revision R1.10.070520)

Microsoft Windows-supported operating systems (BIOS in UEFI mode)

Problem

After successfully installing DE, encrypting, and activating, the OSK incurs a delay between the user entering the required username or password and the characters actually appearing on the screen.

The delay can be between two and three seconds.

The issue is seen on the Getac T800 tablet.

No delay is observed when using an external USB keyboard.

Cause

The issue is with the BIOS and the Absolute Pointer Protocol implemented by the vendor with this model. The following is extracted from KB82160 - Requirements to fully support installation on UEFI systems with Drive Encryption.

DE requires that the following protocols be correctly implemented by the OEM manufacturer:

Simple Text Input or Simple Text Output (Keyboard)
Simple Pointer (Mouse)
Absolute Pointer (Touch or digitizer)
Storage Security Command (For OPAL)

Solution

Contact the OEM manufacturer to have the BIOS updated, and then retest using the tool above.
