System freezes during EPSetup installation

Environment

Endpoint Security (ENS) 10.x

Problem

After the installation of ENS, the event log contains 4107 CAPI2 certificate store errors and messages of failed verification.

Cause

The cause of this installation problem might be a cached Microsoft certificate that has expired or become corrupted. This certificate would cause installation issues when Arbitrary Access Control (AAC) and validation trust protection start. These services depend on certificate data. ENS is unable to verify proper certificates from Microsoft and most likely Trellix.

Solution

To resolve the issue before you install ENS, run the following Microsoft fix:

Access the Microsoft fix.
Click Download at the bottom of the page and run the fix.
Run the following command:

certutil -urlcache * delete
