Sensor hardware models M-1250 and M-1450 have a built-in fail-open function on the fixed copper ports, and you can connect an external active fail-open (AFO) kit to them. This configuration is supported with some limitations.
Implementation with an external AFO kit:
- Connect the monitor ports of the AFO kit with the monitoring ports of the Sensor.
- Connect the network ports of the AFO kit with a peer device such as router, switch, or firewall.
- From NSM, go to My Company, M-1250 (or M-1450), Setup, Physical Ports.
- Double-click on the port pair you want to configure, and then select Inline Fail Closed under the Operation section.
- Enable the port pair and save the configuration.
In this configuration, the traffic passes through the AFO kit and the Sensor. The link status shows Up under Link on the manager. But, the AFO kit status shows --- under Fail-Open Kit.
To check the status of the AFO kit, physically inspect the AFO kit to make sure the port LEDs are up and blinking. Log on to the AFO kit and check the Sensor port pair interface status. Verify that the traffic is going through.
When the port pair on the Sensor is down, the link status shows Down under Link on the manager. The AFO kit status still shows --- under Fail-Open Kit. Traffic is bypassed on the AFO kit.
