Use the
DETech WinPE recovery media for faster decryption times. Use this task to remove DE encryption with token authentication when Windows becomes corrupt, when you can't access the data of an encrypted system, or when encryption or decryption fails.
For details about how to create the required
DETech media
, see the
DETech User Guide (PD24871).
IMPORTANT:
Although the
DETech Standalone version includes more functionality than the
DETech WinPE recovery media, such as
DE Emergency Boot, the
WinPE version is much faster than the standalone version. The
WinPE version also allows you to do the following actions:
- Access the encrypted hard disk
- Fix Windows problems
- Copy user data to another drive before reimaging
- Run any of the Windows tools
- Access the network
Also, consider these reasons to use
DETech WinPE instead of the DE Standalone recovery media:
- DETech Standalone doesn't support file recovery and can't be run in FIPS mode.
- On some BIOS systems, DETech doesn't function properly when booted from the USB memory stick because of how certain BIOSs recognize and handle the bootable USB memory stick during and after the boot process. In this situation, use alternative methods (for example, floppy disk or CD) for booting DETech.
