ERROR: Disabled use of AcceptEx() WinSock2 API (Event ID 329)

Environment

ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) 5.x

Problem 1

After the installation of ePO, the following error displays in the Application event log when the ePO server service starts:

ERROR: Disabled use of AcceptEx() WinSock2 API

NOTE: The event ID is 3299.

Problem 2

An ePO upgrade fails. Services.msc shows two or more ePO Apache services.

When you enable enhanced logging for ePO, Application Event with event ID:3299 is recorded in the Application event log:

Solution

The "Disabled use of AcceptEx() WinSock2 API" isn't an actual error. You can safely ignore this informational message.

Workaround

If services.msc shows two or more ePO Apache services, verify the non-working service and delete the entry from the registry keys:

Do not run a REG file that is not confirmed to be a genuine registry import file.

Press Windows+R, and type Regedit.
Navigate to the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\
Delete the non-working service key. For example, MCAFEEAPACHESERV.

NOTE: The correct, working key is named MCAFEEAPACHESERVER, and contains information related to the path where the Apache process resides: EPO installation drive)\\Program Files (x86) \\McAfee\\ePolicy Orchestrator\\Apache2\\bin\\Apache.exe. Non-working service keys have a different name. The keys contain no relevant data pointing toward the Apache process, or contain incorrect path information.
Activate the change by restarting the system.
