With the release of DE 7.1, the following two changes will be implemented:
- The log error will be more informative and will be changed to Refusing to add new user, reserved PBFS space limit reached.
- The reserved PreBoot File System (PBFS) space will be changed to 3 MB.
Background information:
A reserved space check is in place to help protect PBFS from becoming full. PBFS with little free space causes features of the product, such as themes, policy enforcements, and audits, to fail. To work around this problem, you must increase the available free space in PBFS. There are a number of ways for the administrator to achieve this:
- Unassign unnecessary users from the system and perform a policy enforcement
- Apply a theme with a smaller background image
- Obtain help from Professional Services to create a theme that doesn't contain unnecessary large font files (for example, the CJK font used for Chinese, Japanese, and Korean)
- Re-activate with a larger PBFS size. Cleanly added users in DE 7.1 use much lesser space than that used by previous versions because of a new file format.
NOTES:
- Activating after an emergency boot is the quickest way to achieve this.
- Deactivation and reactivation will also work, but will leave data unprotected.
Adding users fails when the PBFS reserved free space is lesser than a certain amount.
- On EEPC 7.0.x, the reserved space is approximately 100 KB.
- On MDE 7.1, the reserved space is 3 MB. The reserved space limit is more aggressive in MDE 7.1 to protect other components of the product.
The following errors are commonly seen after an upgrade when adding additional users.
The EEPC 7.0.x
MfeEpe.log records the following error:
|
|
User update failed for user <User> with uuid <UUID_REF>, error reported is <[0xEE050014] Not enough space for user data> |
For DE 7.1 and later,
MfeEpe.log records the following error:
|
|
User update failed for user <User> with uuid <UUID_REF>, error reported is <[0xEE050014] Refusing to add new user, reserved PBFS space limit reached > |
