Wireshark is a free and open-source network protocol analyzer that is used for capturing network traffic. You can download Wireshark from the
Wireshark site. This article describes how to run a typical capture that Technical Support might request from you to help to troubleshoot a problem.
To run the Wireshark capture:
- Download and install Wireshark from the Wireshark site. After Wireshark is installed and started, the Wireshark Network Analyzer opens.
- Select an interface to begin the capture:
- Press Ctrl+I. Wireshark presents a list of interfaces found on the client system.
- Click Start next to the appropriate interface. Wireshark begins to capture traffic and displays the traffic on the screen.
- Reproduce the problem that Technical Support is investigating.
- Stop the trace by pressing Ctrl+E.
- Save the file by pressing Shift+Ctrl+S.
