ePolicy Orchestrator can't send notifications to web email services

Environment

ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) 5.x

Problem

Web email services don’t receive the ePO notification or response emails.

Web email service examples:

Gmail
Hotmail
Office 365.

The error below is shown when undertaking a test email from the ePO console:

The message could not be sent because of an unexpected error

Cause

Web email services don’t listen for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) traffic.

Although ePO can send the email data to an SMTP server, if the receiving server doesn’t listen for SMTP traffic, the notifications fail.

Solution 1

With the release of ePO 5.10 Update 13, support is included for SMTP over Transport Layer Security using port 587.

This issue is resolved in ePO 5.10.0 Update 13, which is available from either the Software Catalog or the Product Downloads site.
