Unable to access encrypted files when the client hasn't yet connected to the ePO server
Technical Articles ID:
KB94444
Last Modified: 2023-01-10 12:24:26 Etc/GMT Environment
File and Removable Media Protection (FRP) 5.4.0, 5.3.x, 5.2.x
Problem
If a new local user is created when a client system is offline (not connected with ePO), a new user doesn't have access to keys assigned to the system. Encrypted files can't be opened. The error below is shown when you try to view the encrypted file: The FRP console shows keys that aren't loaded and are unusable by the FRP drivers to decrypt files. Cause
With system keys, each user has a private key cache. The cache can only be populated with keys when the system is connected to ePO.
Solution
This issue is resolved in FRP 5.4.1. The FRP 5.4.1 client console now only shows keys that are downloaded onto the system. Issue resolutions in updates and major releases are cumulative; Technical Support recommends that you install the latest version. To find the most recent release for your product, go to the Product Downloads site.
Our product software, upgrades, maintenance releases, and documentation are available on the Product Downloads site.
NOTE: You need a valid Grant Number for access. See KB56057 - How to download product updates and documentation for more information about the Product Downloads site, and alternate locations for some products. Workaround
The user must connect at least once with ePO to gain access to the keys assigned to the system. The connection occurs at the next Data Channel Communication.
