Endpoint Security console does not open and PowerShell interface hangs

Environment

Endpoint Security (ENS) Adaptive Threat Protection (ATP) 10.7.x
Microsoft PowerShell

Problem

Infrequently after a content update, the ENS console might fail to start. PowerShell scripts hang and the PowerShell interface does not start. The Trellix Agent icon in the notification area does not open when you right-click it.

Cause

ATP is scanning a process when the update starts. The Real Protect scan is delayed waiting for the update to complete. The ATP scan of the process never completes. PowerShell hangs waiting for the Antimalware Scan Interface (AMSI) request to return from ATP.

Solution

This issue is resolved in ENS 10.7.0 July 2020 Update.

Workaround

The following workarounds are available:

Reboot the system.
Restart the ATP process:
1. Disable ENS Self-Protection.
2. Open the Windows Task Manager.
3. Right-click the mfeatp.exe process and kill the process.
4. To get content, run the most recent V3dat.exe file.
5. Enable ENS Self-Protection.
