Environment

ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) 5.x
ePO Pre-Installation Auditor (PIA) 3.1.0.189

NOTE: The PIA tool was previously known as the Installation and Upgrade Precheck tool.

Problem

The ePO PIA tool fails to run on the target system.

Windows Event logs record the following errors:

Faulting application name: ePIP.exe, version: 3.1.0.189, time stamp: 0x5d357a92
Faulting module name: ePIP.exe, version: 3.1.0.189, time stamp: 0x5d357a92
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x0019a349
Faulting process ID: 0xf00

The ePIPAPI.log file records the last activity during the database disk space check:

I CHECK NAME: SQL Server Express Edition size limit
I Entering 'CheckMDFAndLDFSizeLimitForSQLExp'
I Created the group and set the info

Cause

The PIA tool becomes unresponsive when writing to the log file with a non-constant string from C++.

Solution

An ePO PIA hotfix is available. (ePOPIA310_EPO6613_Hotfix.zip)
