mfeepehost.exe crashes on clients during updates

Environment

Drive Encryption (DE) 7.2.6 and earlier

Intel Software Guard Extensions (SGX) technology

Problem

User updates can't be applied to the client.

There's a system crash on meeepehost.exe during the user update.

The Windows Application Event log entry for the crash lists sgx_urts.dll as the faulting module.

The system crash report includes references to the following:

FAILED_INSTRUCTION_ADDRESS:
sgx_urts!sgx_create_enclave…

The MfeEpe.log on the client records the following error:

ERROR UserLib User update failed for user with uuid

The following error is seen after you enter the username during preboot:

EE050014 - File access error

Cause

Intel SGX platforms when using cold boot hardening policy.

Solution

This issue is resolved in DE 7.2.7, which is available on the Product Downloads site.

Workaround

Rename the following SGX DLLs and restart the computer:

C:\Program Files\McAfee\Endpoint Encryption\SGX32\MccSgxIf.dll
C:\Program Files\McAfee\Endpoint Encryption\SGX64\MccSgxIf.dll
