Application and Change Control (ACC) 8.0.0.950 and later

Summary

ACC 8.0.0.950 provides solidification support for virtual disks, which are considered "hot pluggable" drives. Execution of any binary from virtual disks or USB disks is no longer supported by default. In addition, this kind of volume can't be solidified by default. To allow virtual disks and USB disk drives to be solidified, the 13th bit of CustomerConfig must be turned off (0x2000). This article explains the steps to enable solidification support for these types of disk drives.

Problem

After you install ACC 8.0.0.950 Hotfix 5 or later, the following error occurs when trying to solidify virtual disk drives:

The path is on an unsupported volume.

Make sure that the local disk drives are virtual drives:

Run Windows System Information: msinfo32.exe.
Go to System Summary, Components, Storage, Disks.
Examine the model value of each disk drive, and determine the type of drive.

Solution

To enable virtual disk support, change the CUSTOMERCONFIG value as follows.

To make the change local on a system:

Open an Administrative Command Prompt (cmd.exe) using Run As Administrator.
Recover the Application Control command-line interface (CLI) using sadmin recover.
Specify the CLI password.
Run the following command:

sadmin config set customerconfig=65690
To see the CustomerConfig value, run the following command:

sadmin config show customerconfig

NOTE: The correct value is CustomerConfig 65690 (0x1009a)
Lock down the CLI using sadmin lockdown.
Reboot the system.
Attempt to solidify the system with the SC:Enable task or the sadmin so command.

To enable this feature through an ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) client task:

Make sure that the CLI on the client is locked down.
In the ePO Server console menu, go to Policy, Client Task Catalog.
In Client Task Catalog, go to Solidcore, SC: Run Commands task, and create a task with the value of config set customerconfig=65690.
Run the task.
Reboot the system when the CustomerConfig value change is in effect.
Send an SC: Enable task to solidify the system.
