Environment

Drive Encryption (DE) 7.2.3, 7.2.2, and 7.2.1
DETech Disaster Recovery Media

Problem

When you create a DEOpalTech standalone bootable disk, and run the Bootdisk.exe command, you see the following error:

The following error is displayed with DE 7.2.3 when you create the standalone bootable floppy disk:

RTB file too large to fit on a 1.44MB floppy image

Cause

The cause is the increase in the size of the software code of the DETech Recovery Tool. The size of the floppy disk image has outgrown the floppy disk size of 1.44 MB.

Solution

If the standalone boot device is a floppy, download the DETech Emergency Recovery Tool 7.2.2. This version was reposted on December 7, 2017, and incorporates the DE 7.2.1.29 build of the DETech EEOpalTech.rtb file. The reposted file is compatible with the DE 7.2.1, 7.2.2, and 7.2.3 clients.

Workaround

Implement the following if the target boot device is a USB or CD:

NOTE: This workaround can be used with both the DE 7.2.2 and 7.2.3 packages.

Insert a USB drive on the system where you want to run the BootDisk.exe.
From a command prompt, type the following and press Enter:

BootDisk.exe EEOpalTech.RTB d:

Here, (d:) is the drive letter to the USB drive.
Take one of the following actions:
1. Use the USB directly for recovery purposes.
2. Use a third-party tool like Magic ISO to create a CD or ISO and specify the USB as the boot record.
