Problem

The listed Dell systems randomly become unresponsive when the system is left inactive for an extended time.

NOTES:

The video is still displayed but no hard-disk activity is shown.
No errors are logged in the Windows Application or System Event logs.
Systems incur this problem even when the systems are configured to not allow them to enter into sleep or hibernation mode.
No system crash (blue screen) errors are incurred.

Cause

This issue occurs with the Dell 1001DEMA firmware release.

Solution

Install the Dell firmware update 1002DEMA, which is located under Serial ATA updates, from Dell Support.
